Pop and Lock Tailgate Locks

These have definitely been cheapened since I bought one 15 years ago. The bracket is stamped at right angles, so it could easily be bent away if tried. The older version had an angled supported formed into that prevented this. The lock is the same type of cylinder that I can tell, but the key is difficult to insert and remove. Also made cheaper I’d assume. The bracket being made cheap, no longer sits centered in the tailgate surround. And you need to push on the bracket in order to turn the key to lock the handle. It physically rubs the handle and will shave plastic off the handle from the lock bar rubbing it. I do not recommmend these for the price they are. They even gave a washer that’s thinner and no longer zinc coated. Only received one screw which is the security screw. No regular bolt to be found. I have a locking fiberglass tonneau cover, and my tailgate has a plastic cover to protect it, so a standard bolt is fine since it’s under that cover. For $80 it’s not worth it.

Simple to install and simple to use. I like the added security of having it on my truck. I would recommend it to anyone.

This lock is so close to being perfect but misses the mark in many ways. I had to install and uninstall it 3 times due to the locking mechanism that connects to the actual lock cylinder. It barely grabs the square part of the cylinder and has a ton of play causing it to slip. Once finally installed and "working" you can still pop the handle with it locked using only slightly more pressure that normal opening pressure. This is because that same tab that goes up into the glove of the back of the handle that is supposed to pin the handle from being lifted is far to sort. The overall idea is great and the materials are good quality but the execution falls short. I will be sending it back or may see if I can modify it myself. All in all I say don't buy it unless they update the design.

My truck is a 2000 Dakota. Dodge did not manufacture this model with a tailgate lock (according to the dealer). I just put a new tonneau on the vehicle and needed to be able to lock the tailgate. Pop & Lock was one of 2 products that I could find for a vehicle this old. I installed it in about 20 minutes. It fit pretty well and functions properly. The tailgate handle doesn't seat quite as far into the bezel now, but it's a small amount and amount and not an issue for me. I'm quite happy with it.
